Options Expiration Calendar

The upcoming monthly expiration dates and the quarterly triple-witching days.

Expiration dateTypeDays away

Computed in your browser for the next 12 standard monthly expirations. Nothing is queried or stored. Holiday shifts (a third Friday that is a market holiday moves to the Thursday before) are noted where they apply.

Standard monthly equity options expire on the third Friday of the expiration month. Four of those Fridays each year — in March, June, September, and December — are triple-witching days, when stock options, index options, and index futures all expire together, usually the heaviest-volume sessions of the quarter. The most liquid index and ETF products list many more expirations than this, including weekly and daily (0DTE) contracts, but the monthly schedule below is the one that applies to equities broadly.

Frequently asked questions

When do monthly options expire?

Standard monthly equity options expire on the third Friday of the expiration month. If that Friday is a market holiday, expiration moves to the preceding Thursday.

What is triple witching?

Triple witching is the simultaneous expiration of stock options, stock index options, and stock index futures. It falls on the third Friday of March, June, September, and December, and it typically brings the year's heaviest volume as positions are closed or rolled.

Do options only expire on Fridays?

No. The most liquid index and ETF products (such as SPY, QQQ, and SPX) list options that expire on multiple weekdays, including daily (0DTE) expirations. This calendar shows the standard monthly and quarterly schedule that applies to equities broadly.
